What is ProCell Microchanneling

ProCell Microchanneling is a form of micro-needling developed by Dr Mitchell Schwartz through Procell Therapies in 2009. It uses a precision, stamp-like device to create uniform, ultra-shallow micro-channels in the skin using a controlled, vertical technique. This approach is designed to cause less trauma and inflammation than traditional rolling microneedling devices, with generally lower post-procedure redness and a quicker recovery for many individuals.

The ProCell system delivers serums containing growth factors and cytokines derived from bioengineered stem cell research directly into the micro-channels. These bioactive ingredients are intended to support the skin's own natural repair process. Individual responses vary, and a consultation is required to discuss whether this treatment may be suitable for your skin type and concerns.

Microchanneling may be considered by individuals with sensitive skin conditions such as rosacea or melasma, or those managing autoimmune-related concerns such as alopecia totalis, due to its controlled technique and enhanced serum delivery. Suitability for these and any skin condition should be discussed at consultation with your treating practitioner.

The Science Behind ProCell Therapies

ProCell Therapies uses growth factors and cytokines derived from human adult bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Growth factors are messenger proteins that support cell activity and wound healing. Cytokines are signalling molecules that regulate immune responses and inflammation. The ProCell product range includes a broad spectrum of these ingredients, intended to support skin repair across the natural wound healing process, including inhibitory signals to help regulate the healing response at the appropriate time.

The products are manufactured in an FDA-compliant facility and have been in clinical use for over a decade.

Why Skin Changes With Age

Skin changes are influenced by genetic, hormonal, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Over time, natural cell turnover slows, collagen production decreases, and factors such as UV exposure and oxidative stress may affect skin texture and appearance. Procell Therapies addresses this by using microchanneling to open pathways for bioactive serum delivery, aiming to support the skin's natural repair process.

Sun Protection

UV exposure can affect skin over time, even without visible sunburn. The ProCell range includes DNA repair enzymes intended to support the skin's response to UV-related changes. Daily sunscreen use remains the most effective way to help protect skin from further UV-related changes.

Procell Products for Additional Modalities

ProCell products can also be used alongside other modalities such as laser therapy, broadband light, and plasma pen fibroblast treatments. The at-home ProCell MD system includes ingredients such as IL-10 and TGF-B3, which have anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties and are intended to support results between clinic sessions.
